The Rozelle Interchange Works, Stage 3B (RIC-3B) is a major component of Australia’s largest ever infrastructure project, WestConnex. Timely and efficient delivery of the Rozelle Interchange works forms a pivotal part of the overall project by integrating the main motorway tunnel to form an interchange through Rozelle to the Iron Cove Bridge, Anzac Bridge, Victoria Road and inner-western Sydney. The project also provides lead-in infrastructure for access to the future Harbour Tunnel. Working in partnership with the project principal, John Holland and CPB Joint Venture (JHCPB JV), Vaughan Civil is undertaking specialist multi-utility treatment packages to facilitate the works as follows.
Stormwater drainage & Sydney Water sewer—Installation of more than 1 km of drainage pipeline ranging in size from DN250 to DN600 reinforced concrete stormwater including both precast and cast in-situ drainage pits along Victoria Road.
Sydney Water scope includes relocation of 120m of DN250 gravity sewer, and the installation of three maintenance shafts on Victoria Rd at a depth of four metres under ROL (road occupancy licence) conditions. Jemena high pressure—We are coordinating with the Jemena pipe installation crew to complete the Victoria Rd and Terry St HP relocation. Work includes excavation and back-fill of the 90m trench alignment, installing the pipe and providing specialist welding.
Jemena low/medium pressure gas—Installation of 800m of 250 PE sleeve and 12 open points in highly congested footpaths in rock conditions and in close proximity to community-sensitive areas (Rozelle is a medium-density inner western suburb). Vaughan Civil is working successfully within the scheduled timeline and managing interaction with community stakeholders to meet their expectations of environmental impact mitigation, access, project duration and outcomes.
Ausgrid transmission—Vaughan Civil is commissioning the 33kV transmission feeder for Ausgrid, with a trench route through urban residential areas and existing utility-congested corridors. The project was complicated by complex rock excavation, which required sensitive engagement with local stakeholders to manage environmental and residential impact concerns. The work was completed on-time and with minimal disruption due to the community management experience and communication skills of our work crew and supervisors.
